Previous eye surgery
Once the focusing lens clouds, there is no way
to make it clear again, nor any technique to stop its progress. To
restore vision that has been lost or impaired by a cataract, the cloudy
lens must be removed.
Our surgeons specialize in NO NEEDLE, NO STITCH, NO PATCH refractive cataract surgery utilizing the latest intraocular implants including Crystalens, ReStor and TORIC implants.
On the day of surgery, patients are given a relaxant to enhance
calmness. EYE DROP anesthesia is used to numb the eye. Using a NO
STITCH microincision surgery, the cataract is removed by ultrasound. Then, the lens implant is inserted. The implanted lens is permanent and
should last a lifetime. Patients leave the surgery center with NO
PATCH. With this brief, painless technique, most patients can resume
their normal activities immediately and care for themselves without any
help.
Refractive surgery is incorporated into cataract surgery by using
microincisions at the time of surgery to reduce astigmatism. With this
procedure, we can reduce or eliminate the need for glasses or contact
lenses for distance vision.
Should you notice that your vision is gradually getting blurry after
cataract surgery, please call our office for an appointment. Your eyes
will be examined to see if you have a capsule haze. Your lens implant
sits in a capsule behind the pupil. As time passes, the back of this
capsule clouds over, and interferes with vision. A YAG laser beam is
used to vaporize the central part of the capsule haze. This painless
procedure is done right in our office. The vision will clear and you
can resume normal activities that day.
